Hauck had few friends at Viewmont High School, where he was an A student. He was arrested Wednesday night in Missoula, Mont., where he and his mother lived before she divorced and moved to Utah. Family members say Jeremy was antisocial and utterly dependent on his mother. “He was an odd kid,” says his uncle, Michael Umphrey. “He was never forthcoming–one-word answers and a cryptic smile.” Now Hauck faces possible first-degree murder charges and a potential life sentence if convicted. “He’s not saying anything,” says Pickett, “so we may never know why.”
