A lot of times I would give her the lines and tell her what I wanted her to say. Then I’d ask her how she would say that. She was 21 and I was 112. I don’t know the young way of saying things. She didn’t know why I liked what she said. She was very brave to try it like that. She had that Audrey Hepburn thing, but she was also Lucy. But she had to believe she could be funny. That thing we did with the jewelry case snapping her fingers was for the gag reel. But when she broke into laughter, we put it in the movie. She is just so honest and free. Her entourage was a dog she found. She fed the dog, then herself. When you have an entourage, you eat better–someone goes for the food. One night she fainted. I asked her when she last had a snack. She hadn’t eaten all day. Once we gave her my tuna fish, she was fine. Now she has people who make sure she eats.
