Ross and Klineman, who have been dubbed the “A Team” at these Olympics, brought their A-game to Friday’s final with a comfortable straight sets victory over the Australian pair Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy.

The win saw the U.S. claim its first women’s beach volleyball gold since London 2012, having lost out to Brazil in this event in the Rio Games.

It was a victory cheered on by a member of the original A Team TV series, with Mr. T taking to Twitter to voice his support for the pair.

Ahead of the final, he tweeted: “Hey Fool! Don’t Bother me now, I am getting ready to watch the A-Team!

“No, not the tv show… Grrr! I’m talking about Alix Klineman and April Ross going for the Gold in Beach Volleyball. Go USA Go!”

Mr. T, who played B.A. Baracus on the classic NBC series and also featured alongside Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III, was among the first to congratulate the beach volleyball pair after their straight sets win.

He wrote: “Wow! You did it Ladies, Congratulations! April Ross and Alix Klineman, you Deserve the Gold! You Brought your “A” Game to the A-team! USA All the Way, you made Us Proud!”

Ross and Klineman won the two sets 21-15 and 21-16 in 43 minutes amid sweltering conditions.

Their victory was especially poignant for Ross who secured her first Olympic gold at her third attempt, having won silver at the London Games and a bronze in Rio.

The pair more than lived up to their moniker of the “A-Team,” dropping just one set across seven matches to return the U.S. to the summit of the sport.

Mr. T has been a vocal supporter of the duo after learning of their nickname ahead of their semi-final clash with Switzerland.

“When I heard they call you Ladies “The A-Team”, I had to Cheer You On!,” he explained in a tweet. “I Pity the Competition… Grrrr! (We love when a Plan Comes Together) Go USA go!!!”

Ross and Klineman are also very much aware of his support, quickly thanking Mr. T for his backing on social media.

Ross responded to one tweet with a message saying: “Ahhhhhh [emoji] Thank you for your blessing @MrT! #ATeam,“along with a fist-bump emoji.

Klineman also replied to a tweet, writing “What !!!!!” along with a star-eyed smiley face emoji.

Newsweek has reached out to Mr. T for further comment.
