After tying Eric Lindros on Saturday for the Canadian World Juniors all-time points record, the 2023 draft sensation broke it on Monday with his goal to open Canada’s quarterfinal game against Slovakia.

After a Slovakia turnover in its own zone, Bedard got the puck in alone on Adam Gajan and beat him glove side for his 32nd career point at the World Juniors.

The 17-year-old has been stellar for Canada at the tournament, leading all skaters in goals, assists and points.

Here is a closer look at the Canadian record book and where Bedard stands all time in World Juniors points.

Most career World Juniors points by a Canadian

Bedard’s assist on Kevin Korchinski’s third-period tally against Sweden was the 31st point of his World Juniors career, tying him with Lindros for the Canadian record. His goal against Slovakia pulled him into first place, and he added another goal and an assist in the quarterfinal win to give him 34.

What is most impressive about Bedard’s numbers is that Lindros put up 31 points over the span of three tournaments. Bedard hasn’t played in two full World Juniors yet and already has the most points ever by a Canadian.

Most career points at the World Juniors

Peter Forsberg holds the record for most career points at the World Juniors. While a majority of the top players on this list played in three tournaments, the Swedish star needed just two to record 42 points.

Robert Reichel is the only other player to hit 40 career points at the World Juniors. All told, 11 players have tallied at least 30 points in the World Juniors.

Most points at a single World Juniors

It’s rare to see a player score at least 20 points at the World Juniors. The feat has been accomplished just six times and has not happened since 1993.

Even rarer is 30 points. Only one player ever to hit that milestone — Forsberg.

The former Avalanche star had the greatest single performance at the World Juniors with 31 points in seven games for Sweden in 1993. A 10-point performance in a 20-1 win against Japan helped Forsberg stuff the scoresheet.

At the same tournament, Markus Naslund, one of Forsberg’s Sweden teammates, set a World Juniors record with 13 goals. He finished the competition with 24 points, which is tied with Finland’s Raimo Helminen for second-most in a single tournament.
