Montreal Mayor Plans To Impress Rob Manfred In Bid For Major League Team

So much so that Mayor Denis Coderre will meet with Rob Manfred on May 28 in hopes of convincing the MLB commissioner his city is worth another look.

“We will show Mr. Manfred our love for the sport. I don’t want to negotiate openly, but we’ll clearly talk about Montreal,” Coderre told Canadian Press (via CBC).

The Expos left Montreal after the 2004 season, moving to Washington.

“We need a plan. We need a step-by-step approach,” Coderre told CP. “You don’t pull the flower to make it grow faster.”

Olympic Stadium hosted two exhibition games in April between the Blue Jays and Reds, drawing a total of 96,000 fans.

Coderre and Manfred will meet in New York.
