Some cards, such as the Subaru MasterCard from Chase and MBNA’s WorldPoints card, offer cash and point rewards as well as rock-bottom interest rates. But beware of loopholes: some cards promise zero interest, but charge a 3 percent transaction fee up to $50 to take on those existing balances. You can do better than that with the low-rate, no-fee cards, listed at Bankrate.com: Wachovia Bank (800-922-4684), 1.7 percent interest on balance transfers for six months, and Bank of America (800-678-2632), 1.99 percent for a full year. That gives you plenty of time to clear the balance before you start charging next year’s cheer.
