Davis, 13, has blown away viewers and batters alike with her 70 mph fastball, recording two shutouts in the process. She has been featured on national news shows and as viewers have tuned in, her groundbreaking place for young female athletes has been solidified.
“Last week, this week, maybe next week, she’s owned the sports conversation,” said Sports Illustrated managing editor Chris Stone.
The best part of the story could be that Davis has said she is considering leaving baseball behind and forging her own path in basketball.
“I want to play basketball, and I could also do both basketball and baseball — but I really want to play basketball," said Davis.
Perhaps this is just the first SI cover in a line of many for the young athlete from Philadelphia.
