The league announced Thursday that its top individual honor handed out each season will henceforth be known as the Landon Donovan MVP Award. The accompanying trophy, designed by Tiffany & Co., “features a Donovan silhouette applied to a sterling silver MLS crest, which is attached to an ebonized wood base with a sterling silver collar.”

Donovan, 32, is MLS’s all-time leader in goals (144) and assists (136) and was named an All-Star 14 years in a row. He began his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes (2001-04) and moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2005. He also did stints abroad with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in Germany and twice went on loan to Everton of the English Premier League.

The most decorated player in U.S. soccer history also represented his country in three World Cups (2002, 2006, 2010) and scored 57 goals in 157 international matches.
