MORE: The worst (and best) MLB trade rumors
The Red Sox just signed David Price to a seven-year, $217 million deal Tuesday, and the Tigers signed Jordan Zimmermann to a five-year, $110 million deal on Monday. The moves seem to have prompted Los Angeles into action as they look to tie down last season’s NL Cy Young runner-up.
It’s worth mentioning the proposed deal could also be a smokescreen set out by the Dodgers hoping to raise the price for the Giants. San Francisco has shown increased interest in Greinke but would likely be driven out of the race if Los Angeles does, in fact, offer that kind of money.
Greinke finished 19-3 last season with a 1.66 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 200 strikeouts.
