Rios, 33, played for the Rangers last season and batted .280/.311/.398 in 521 plate appearances with four home runs.

Rios presumably would take over for Nori Aoki in right field, with Lorenzo Cain staying in center and Jarrod Dyson remaining the fourth outfielder. Dyson played some in center, with Cain moving to right, during the postseason. Aoki is a free agent.

Rios is the second significant signing for the American League champions this offseason. KC also added designated hitter Kendrys Morales with a two-year, $17 million contract. Morales will replace Billy Butler, who signed with the Athletics.
