The singer and actress, who is currently on tour in South America, took to her Instagram account late Tuesday to share brief video footage of passengers gasping in horror as a bright lightning flash could be seen through the aircraft’s windows.

Captioning the footage, the star, 29, assured that she and her crew were safe, though plans to perform in Paraguay’s capital, Asunción, on Wednesday have been called off.

She wrote: “To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting.

“My crew, band, friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing. We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay. 💔 I LOVE YOU.”

Cyrus received an outpouring of supportive messages in response to her post, including a comment from designer Jeremy Scott, who wrote: “THANK GOD YOU ALL ARE SAFE.”

The “We Can’t Stop” singer was flying to Paraguay to headline the second day of Asunciónico Festival, which was this year scheduled to take place for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement shared on Asunciónico’s Twitter account, “severe weather conditions” in the city had already adversely affected the festival.

The statement, shared in Spanish, read: “Due to severe weather conditions and to preserve the public’s safety, the artists and staff of the festival, in compliance with the instructions of governmental authorities, have decided to cancel day 1 of the festival.

“We will be informing tomorrow if the conditions are appropriate for day 2 of the festival. Soon we will also be informing about the process of ticket refunds.”

Cyrus had previously performed in Colombia, Chile and Argentina, sharing a slew of photos on social media of her experiences in those countries ahead of her attempt to travel to Paraguay.

The star’s tour of South America is currently scheduled to conclude with a performance at Lollapalooza Brasil in São Paulo, Brazil, on March 26.

While Cyrus’ tour will end in time for her to return to the U.S. ahead of April’s Grammy Awards, she had previously commented on her album, Plastic Hearts, and hit single, “Midnight Sky,” being snubbed at the upcoming event.

Taking to Twitter soon after the nominations were announced in November, Cyrus wrote that she was “in good company” as she shared a link to an article about artists who have not yet won competitive Grammy Awards. That list includes ABBA, Queen, Diana Ross, Björk, and The Beach Boys.
