Nixa Mayor Brian Steele is on the chopping block as voters determine his fate on November 2, the day of the special election, according to the Springfield News-Leader. City Council granted emergency powers to Steele during the pandemic, which he used to enact the mask ordinance in October. The ordinance ended on April 30. The officer, who has not been named, was found on the morning of Sunday, August 2 in a car with another overdose victim by officials from the St. Charles County police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He was later identified as being an officer from the Bellefontaine Neighbors police department. The department originally said the officer was being placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
