The teacher, Kelly Simpson, 31—who has been placed on leave, according to a local school district—was arrested, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said. In a press release, the office said the teen was reported missing by his parents on August 12 and was recovered safely from Simpson’s home. “Investigators successfully recovered the juvenile located inside the home of Simpson. Kelly Simpson was placed under arrest for interfering with the custody of a minor after picking the juvenile up from an unknown location and concealing him inside her home while having knowledge of his missing endangered status,” the press release said....

“Not only is it here, it’s gonna get worse,” said Mississippi Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs at a press briefing Thursday. “Yesterday, five hospitals of our biggest hospitals in the state had zero ICU beds, zero. An additional four had five percent or less, an additional three had less than ten percent.” At the news conference, Dobbs said hospitals have been “stretched thin” by the influx of infections. Dobbs said the state has continually had to send COVID-19 patients out of Mississippi because “Mississippi hospitals cannot take care of Mississippi patients....

State Health Officer Thomas Dobbs said the information he originally shared was based in part on a hospital report that was later corrected. A tweet Dobbs posted earlier Tuesday, which has since been deleted, said 12 children in Mississippi were receiving treatment for their COVID-19 infections in hospital intensive care units, with 10 of those children on ventilators. Dobbs later posted an update saying seven children were in the ICU with two on ventilators....

In a Reddit post, the woman said that after trying for a baby for a long time, she and her husband finally became pregnant. However, at a nine week scan, she was told there was no heartbeat and a doctor confirmed the pregnancy was not viable. In the post, she explains the options that were presented to her by the doctor. She could wait to see if her body miscarried the fetus by itself and passed it naturally, but because she was not showing signs of miscarriage, this could take weeks....

McConnell will face only the opinions of Kentucky voters during his upcoming Election Day fight against McGrath, but U.S. voters at large have largely negative views of the Republican Senate leader. A new Pew Research Center survey conducted ahead of Monday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination asked voters to rate both McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Neither senator received a “very warm” or “somewhat warm” rating above 25 percent....

The Senate minority leader told a number of business leaders in his home state of Kentucky that his party likely has a 50-50 chance of taking control of the Senate in November.
