Donors contributed $6,258,267.91 to the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, Governor Andy Beshear’s office said in a news release on Monday. The fund will initially help families cover funeral expenses of those who died in last Friday’s storms. At least 74 people have been confirmed dead in Kentucky after one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in U.S history saw twisters tear through several states. Kentucky was hardest hit, with at least eight of the dead in a Mayfield candle factory that was leveled....

The nation’s updated fatality count—which climbed to 10,335 on April 6—now represents roughly 14 percent of the global total. Worldwide, at least 72,600 deaths have occurred as a result of COVID-19 infections and upward of 1.3 million cases of the virus have been confirmed since late December. The U.S. is now considered the pandemic’s epicenter, surpassing 347,000 positive cases Monday afternoon. Fallon Harris was arrested Saturday in connection with her son’s homicide in the 8000 block of South Bennett Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune. The son has been identified as 12-year-old Kaden Ingram. Harris, a 37-year-old city laborer, was ordered held without bond at her first court appearance Sunday. Cook County prosecutors said during the hearing Sunday that Harris pointed a gun at her son around 10:15 a.m. and questioned him about a digital storage disc....

Paramedics scrambled to the infant’s home in Mulberry, Arkansas, where they found that the baby was not breathing. Despite checking the little boy’s mouth for objects and conducting CPR, the little boy remained unresponsive. Suspecting something could be lodged further down his airway stopping him from breathing, medics then discovered a wet wipe wedged in his throat and pulled it out. Paramedics battled in vain to revive the baby but all attempts failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene....

Tamala Taylor, 63, had to pay over $32,000 in restitution to her child for the funds she stole between 2018 and 2019. Taylor took the money for herself instead of paying for her child’s expenses at the foster care home, which is what the funds were intended for, according to a press release from the Michigan Attorney General’s office. In February, Taylor pleaded guilty to embezzlement from a vulnerable adult....
